Not Scared Anymore

I am so excited! I don't have to have surgery unless my elbow swells up huge again. The Dr. just put me on an antibiotic for 7 more days. He said to try to not bump it because everytime it gets bumped it gives it a chance to develope more bacteria. So I'll just try to be really careful. It's going to be hard since I am so clumsy! I really think everything is going to be okay.

Super Scared!

Just a warning! This is a very long and boring, all about me~me~me post. I think I'm overreacting about the Whole thing, but I can't lie......I'm scared. Matt isn't here (he's in St.George) for me to vent to, and he forgot the cell phone, ugh!

Okay, so on January 15th my elbow began to hurt, kind of like a nerve pain, and it hurt bad enough to be super annoying all day! That night my elbow had swelled up quite a bit, so Matt took me to
Instacare. They gave me shot, and an oral antibiotic, and sent me home.

The next day I couldn't keep anything down for 12 hours, not even water. I couldn't lift my head up off my pillow unless I had to puke of coarse.
Matt, and his family took the kids bowling, and out for pizza for Matt's Birthday while I stayed home and slept.

By the time they came home at 9 pm my elbow was gigantic. Matt took me to LDS Hospital where they began the IV drips with 2 very strong
antibiotics . They diagnosed me with cellulitis, and bursitis.  Cellulitis can be a serious infection in the deep skin tissues.  The doctors couldn't
confirm that the infection as Staph/MRSA because there wasn't an open wound. I do think it was MRSA because it seemed to be resistant to the oral antibiotics, and I had felt the same kind of sickness as before when I had MRSA five months ago. This time it wasn't contageous though. Bursitis is inflammation of  the joint in the back of the elbow due to an infection or injury. They had me come back for 4 days. They just kept the IV in my arm which wasn't fun. I Was spending 6 hours a day getting an IV.  Everytime I went back to the hospital the Doc would circle the perimeter of the area that was red, and inflammed so they would know if the infection had spread. I had 3 different drawings because despite the IV the red was spreading down my forearm.  Finally, the  5th day the swelling seemed to have gone down significantly, but the redness was still there. The Doc put me on a couple of strong oral antibiotics, and told me it would be my last IV treatment. Yay, they took the blasted thing out of my arm.

So, tomorrow will be my 10th day since my last IV, and of being on the 2 oral antibiotics. My elbow is still very red, and super painful when touched. I am pretty clumsy, so I am always hitting my elbow on everything 20 times a day.........and my kids accidentally hit it too.

It isn't swollen huge anymore, just on the tip is red and swollen. I think that the cellulitis is gone, and now it's just bursitis.  I called an Orthopedic Doc,and made an appointment. Their office just called me, and they said that the Doc usually doesn't deal with infections. The hospital Was supposed to have referred me to a Dr. so I didn't really know what kind
of Doc to call. They told me that the Ortho Doc had decided he would take a look at it, and if he couldn't help me the Ortho Surgeon would need to be the person to take care of it. They are so nice because they made it so I can see both of them at the same appointment. But I don't think that's good news if I do have to end up seeing the SURGEON!

I am so scared though! Mainly about going under anesthesia, and about $$$ since we don't have any health insurance. In the past I haven't done the best after surgery. I get so nauseated that even the anti nausea drugs don't take it away. I HATE that feeling more than anything. Then I'll have to worry about taking care of my family, and the everyday life. Brooklyn is going to have to be the official hair doer, dinner cooker, Momma wanna be. I know, I know,  I'm being a big baby, and I should be more positive. Things could go great at the Dr. and he might know the right medicine, or have an alternate option. Surgery is the last resort, but seriously I am FREAKING OUT! I know it gets so annoying to my family, and friends because I talk about how much it hurts. OUCH! I really wish it would go away!
